THE ARTIST
An international festival of activist art held in Moscow every fall since 2011. “MediaUdar” can be considered an international community for the study, articulation, documentation, support and development of activist art. MediaUdar is an open platform, its position is not the commitment to a concrete ideology, but the search for openness, equality of participants and direct democracy as the principle of decision-making.
DESCRIPTION
The festival is built on the principle of self-organization of the work group of painters, activists, artists and philosophers in the format “BarCamp” – informal conference, created by the participants themselves. This includes assembly, expeditions, publication, exhibitions, presentations, conferences, workshops, debates, literary readings, concerts, video screenings, joint actions on the street. The festival’s events are aimed at creating a platform for interaction between activists from different regions of the country, supporting civic initiatives, building a platform for interaction among oppressed groups in society (immigrants, etc.). ), providing assistance to political prisoners, as well as protecting the environment.
BACKGROUND
The first “MediaUdar” festival was in the fall of 2011 as a special project of the 4th Muscovite Contemporary Art Biennial. Subsequent events to the Festival were held in Novosibirsk, Murmansk, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Izhevsk, Ekaterinburg, Togliatti, Samara, Krasnodar and other Russian cities
